JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access to, reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services, primary health care (PHC) including community health programs, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.

Projects Overview

The Strengthening Service Delivery (SSD) Project focuses on building upon and leveraging previous and current Gates Foundation and other investments to improve the quality of downstream supply-side integrated services accessed often by women, newborns, children and youth. This project has three primary outcomes: enhanced provider’s competencies to deliver quality person-centered care, strengthened integrated service delivery structures and quality processes and improved last-mile commodity management and product availability. JSI with partners including Engender Health, Ethiopian Midwives Association, Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia, in Supply Health, Think Place, and local universities and development associations is implementing focusing on the above three project focus areas to further expand structures and processes improvements and to enable better care offerings in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child, adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCHN) services.

Overview of the Position

This position requires close monitoring and technical support of the implementation of innovative approaches and interventions to identified gaps and challenges in RMNCH in SSD project interventions sites. These include, but not limited to PPH prevention and management using E-Motive bundle, optimized Family Planning-Immunization-Nutrition integrated model of care implementation, DMPA-SC SI implementation at PHC level and implementation of eCHIS enhancements to address challenges in immunization and MNCH. The role involves working closely with JSI technical and field teams, local implementing partners, health system staff and health care workers/ implementers. The candidate will also develop monthly and overall workplans, provide technical support to field staff and document share best experience between health facilities for improved implementation and service delivery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive assessment of intervention implementation in intervention woredas and facilities, monitor implementation status, progress and proactive identification of gaps

Assess facility readiness and provide the necessary support for new interventions implementation

Work closely with JSI technical and field teams, local implementing partners, health system staff and health care workers/implementers to ensure effective implementation of interventions including, but not limited to PPH prevention and management with EMOTIVE bundle, optimized FP-Immunization-Nutrition integrated model of care, DMPA SC SI implementation research, newborn care strengthening and implementation of eCHIS enhancements for RMNCH and zero-dose identification and linkage

Provide training and support capacity building activities to the field implementing team and health care workers in support of implementation of the interventions;

Support project monitoring and evaluation activities and those related to implementation research with due focus on the generation and compilation of timely and quality data from relevant sources;

Develop weekly, monthly and quarterly activity and monitoring plan in alignment with project implementation plan and site-specific plans and facilitate their implementation in collaboration with local partners and implementers

Prepare regular reports on intervention implementation activities and progress and share with technical leads and teams

Liaise between the central and regional JSI teams to cascade and provide technical guidance and updates down to regional and field teams in a timely and context specific manner

Proactively collect insights, challenges, and feedback from implementation, synthesizing the information and share it back to the central team for support and decision

Conduct regular follow up for onsite technical assistance and supportive supervision to monitor progress, identify challenges

Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings with field level implementation team to share updates, experiences and lessons

Ensure collaboration, management support and ownership from the health system and other stakeholders working in partnership with JSI

Ensure the necessary supportive tools, job aids, supplies and commodities are in place and in proper use to deliver the service effectively

Where relevant, ensure community structures are actively engaged and activities are aligned and coordinated between facilities and community structures

Regularly review data monitoring platforms for the interventions and provide performance-based feedback to different levels, region, woreda, health facilities

Support project level activities and preparations for scale up in line with MOH and project plan alignment

Adhere to and promote JSI’s culture and values, and uphold JSI’s standards related to fraud, ethics, accountability and management

Requires frequent travel minimum 80% of the time to field implementation sites

About You
Qualification And Experience

Master’s degree in public health / medical degree and related health fields

A minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in RMNCH program implementation

Experience in training and capacity building skills in key RMNCH areas;

Experience in implementing RMNCH interventions in Ethiopia;

Good understanding of national MNCH policies, strategies and guidelines

Trained on the prevention and management of postpartum haemorrhage/E-motive bundle and DMPA SC SI is a plus

Experience on training and/mentoring service providers

Excellent command of spoken and written English language

Ability and willingness to travel to health facilities located in the project regions/districts
